September

From the President

We hope you all had a good summer and that you had the chance to take advantage of all of the activities we had at the Pool over the last few months.

A quick update from the annual meeting: Both Bylaws proposals passed and after the elections and the meeting I am pleased to announce our new Board for the coming year:

President - Craig Madden
Vice President - Corey D'Agostino
Secretary - Kari Maltz
Treasurer - Michaela Allen
Membership - Kari Maltz
Buildings & Grounds - T.C. Cameron
Beautification & Horticulture - Katie Hicks
Pool & Pool Systems - Craig Madden, Corey D'Agostino
Aquatics - Cheryl Gorman
Social Events - Karen West
Parties - Tracy Millward-Bourne
Website & Waterlog - Bob Baca
Member At-Large - Cindy Sawyer

Based on our good financial results this year and the initiative of T.C. Cameron, the Board is enthusiastically supporting an upgrade to the bathrooms starting this fall.

The board is exploring the option of opening the pool a bit later in the day on weekdays after school begins in August 2016 and taking those hours to extend the season another weekend or two.

We have also scheduled a short fall clean-up day on Sat. September 26th, 2015 starting at 8 am. Please come on down and lend a hand; there will be 2016 guest cards for those who participate. The focus will be removing vines and cutting back the overgrowth. We will have hot dogs and soda/water available.

As always, please send me your thoughts on the above or anything else to president@capepool.com

With Highest Regards,
Craig J. Madden

Social Events

It's amazing how quickly the summer has flown by! The Social Committee was pleased to host a few more events during the last month and wanted to express our appreciation to all of the volunteers for their time and support.

Snow Cone Day was a big hit with kids and adults alike on a hot summer afternoon. We appreciate the Swim Team donating the snow cone syrup and allowing us to use their snow cone machine for the event. Thank you to all of the volunteers who assisted with the event: Cathy Wasuita, Cheryl Gorman, Tracy Bourne, Karen Fedor, and Heather O'Neil.

We were very excited to offer Paint by the Pool last month. A huge shout of thanks to Leslie Dougherty for researching, organizing and teaching a group to paint a picture, poolside. It required much time and effort for Leslie, and her participants truly enjoyed a fun evening under her instruction.

The pool season closed with a festive Labor Day party. We appreciate all of the people who made chili and shared it at the pool: Ron Maltz, Gus Curtain, Craig Madden, James Bourne, Tom Kovac, Michaela Allen, Cheryl Gorman, Brigid Gorman, Tisha Donahue, Gus Curtin, Aaron West and Anthony. Thank you to all of the members who volunteered their time during the event: Tracy Bourne, Cheryl Gorman, Leslie Dougherty, Craig Madden, Michaela and Steve Allen, James Bourne, Aaron West, Tisha Donahue, Stephanie Ceruolo, Lori Runk, Cathy Wasuita, Christine Jozwick, and Katherine Woods. Thank you to our faithful youth who managed the snow cone syrup throughout the event: Gabby Eaton, Gwynn Edwards and Matt Allen.

A belated thank you to Matt Thompson for donating the inflatable screen for the movie night, held in June.

We hope you've enjoyed the pool this summer with your family and friends. If you have a hobby or talent you would like to share with the pool membership next year, or are interested in joining the social committee, please contact us at social@capepool.com.

Membership Info

While the Membership Chair is always available throughout the year by emailing membership@capepool.com, please also utilize the club Yahoo group if you are looking to sell or purchase a pool membership during the off season. August

From the President

I’d like to thank all of the volunteers who have helped with the events at the pool this season. All of the social events including Toddler Fun Day, Movie Night, Kids’ Night, Volleyball Mondays, and others have been made possible by volunteers. Also many thanks to Karen West, CSCSC Social Chair, for coordinating these efforts. Karen has spent many hours ensuring a fun social season at the pool. When you see her please thank her. If you have enjoyed these events please consider offering Karen your time and talents for next season.

Recently the club was host to Camp Allen, an outreach program of St. Margaret’s Church, sponsored by members Teresa and Spencer Todd. It was a pleasure to have the camp for their annual visit to the swim club. DRD, our management company, provided the lifeguards as a service to the community. Thank you DRD.

Our lifeguards have been great this year. We are lucky to have so many great kids from our club and community interested in working at the club.

Our Water Aerobics program coordinated by the swim team and instructed by Tara De Leon has been really well attended. A new program added this year, Masters’ Morning swim, had a promising inaugural year. The program provides for uninterrupted adult swim twice a week in the early morning for 1 ½ hours under the guidance of a swim team coach. Participants averaged 2500 yards per practice and attended unfailingly even in the cold rain of the early season. We hope to see this program grow in the coming years.

There are few people that have contributed a lot this year and should be recognized. The first is Duffy Mazan, he stepped right up to serve as treasurer right at the beginning of the season when I asked him, and without him we would be in a difficult situation for sure. Cindy Sawyer has contributed tirelessly for Swim team and maintenance of the flower beds and keeping the place looking good; when I found out she knows quickbooks and does payroll I asked her if she would take over as treasurer when Duffy steps down at the end of the season, and she agreed! Bob Baca, the man who maintains the wireless at the pool, the facebook page and the Pool webpage with links to our registration system, and makes access to board minutes and forms, and the Waterlog all possible has been really dedicated and responsible -moreover he has been a really good board member and his wisdom on the board is really appreciated. Cheryl Gorman has really given it her all this season, as the Swim Team chair and a real asset in helping all the club’s activities, she takes the responsibly inherent in running the pool in a safe and serious manner and has pitched in on innumerable occasions to get the job done for multiple events.

Serving on the board is a huge responsibility, while great satisfaction is the reward for providing a facility and programs, it’s frankly hard work and a big commitment.

Please attend the annual meeting of the club on August 23 at 4 pm. On the agenda is election of officers and annual reports. Projects under consideration for next year are pavilion repair, bath repair, and possibly more deck repair.

With Highest Regards,
Craig J. Madden

After a few delays, a fun and festive night was enjoyed by all of the children at Kids Night! We appreciate you volunteering your time to support this fun event.

We also appreciate all of the support from the team of volunteers on Movie Night: James Bourne, Max Madden, Cheryl Gorman, Jill Remson, Aaron West, Stephanie Ceruolo, Christine Jozwick, Katherine Woods and Kari Maltz. Special thanks and appreciation to the Swim Team for donating the movie projector and speakers so the Social Committee could host Movie Night. Special thanks and appreciation also to Apex Theater for donating the popcorn for the event. Despite the rain and rescheduled date, a fun family night was enjoyed under the stars!

July

From the President

We are in the middle of another great season at the pool this year. We have indeed had a happy pool. Water quality has been very good; I frankly was concerned with the prolonged very hot weather at the beginning of the season and the resulting huge pool use to escape the heat. The pool was “shocked” basically every Saturday night to address the heat and use. Karen West and Tracy Millward-Bourne on the Social committee have provided good and well-attended functions and parties. The swim team is providing good training and sportsmanship for our young athletes. The swim lesson program is also well organized and provides a real benefit. And the adult volleyball program continues strongly under the leadership of Stacie Cochran-McNeal. Hats are off to all those who helped or participated in the above or in any way for the benefit of membership.

Over the last winter we replaced the retaining wall by the pavilion and replaced a good sized section of the pool deck. The retaining wall was about $16,000 and the deck work was about $24,000. Next on the list is really fixing up the bathrooms and showers in the fall and also repairing the pavilion roof. Remember, every five to ten years we need to replace the plaster of the pool which is a major expense, about $24,000, that we have to plan for. However we switched from straight “Marbelite” or straight white coat to “oyster quartz diamond” the last time we plastered the pool and DRD has been very kind to the plaster by not acid washing the pool during opening. The result is that it looks like we are not going to have to plaster as often as in the past.

Please email me at president@capepool.com with anything you want to address, discuss or suggest.

With Highest Regards,
Craig J. Madden

April

President's Remarks

More progress was made during the off season this year. A new retaining wall has been installed replacing the failing wall next to the picnic pavilion. Also, a large portion of the deck has been replaced with new concrete. This should eliminate most if not all of the puddling of water that has become a problem in recent years. We plan to continue to replace sections of the pool deck over the next several years.

Joe Keckler has retired from the CSCSC Board stepping down from Building and Grounds Committee Co-Chair. We thank him for his years of service and welcome new board member Dennis Edwards. Dennis will complete the remainder of Joe’s term and will serve as building and grounds Co-chair. Please lend him and Mike Meer your support and come out for the clean-up day in May.

DRD has done a great job over the past three seasons and will continue as our management company for the 2015 season.

I hope everyone is looking forward to summer fun as much as my family and I are. Please come out for clean-up days in May.
