APRIL PUBLISHED BY THE CAPE ST. CLAIRE SWIM CLUB 2017

Welcome to 2017

Welcome to the 2017 season of the Cape St. Claire Swim Club! We have lots of news to share, so please keep on reading below. Be sure to get your dues paid if you have not yet done so. And then get ready for opening day on Saturday, May 27.

From the President

The start of another exciting summer season is just around the corner and we’re excited to see everyone back at the pool! While the mild winter may have given us several days where we dreamed of keeping the pool open year-round, we took advantage of the off season by tackling several projects. There are large boulder stairs on each end of the pool which now lead up to the pavilion and upper green space. The pavilion also had a new roof put on, which brings a great update to the gathering space.

Our annual cleanup is scheduled for Saturday, May 13th. Please be sure to make it out to the pool to meet your fellow pool members but also earn a guest pass for your family. Pizza will also be provided for all those who attend the cleanup day!

Our pool held leases were gone in record time this year so if you know someone who is looking let them know that if they see one available to hop on it quick as getting to the pool this year seems to be on the top of everyone’s mind.

We’re also looking forward to having several fun social events and late nights again this year. We plan to have movie nights and adult late nights.

We can’t wait to kick off the season and we’re excited for everyone to see the newest improvements.

See you at the pool!

Annual Clean-Up Day

The Cape Pool’s annual clean-up date will by May 13th from 8am until 2pm. If you have time, please stop by and lend a hand. We look forward to seeing everyone there! Every family that helps out will get a free guest pass!

From Buildings & Grounds

During the off season, it has been pretty quiet. The one major project we accomplished was the replacement of the steps on both sides of the pool, leading the pavilion. Both sets were replaced with boulder steps! See the pictures below.

Swim Team

The swim team began registering swimmers on April 1 giving priority to club members and returning swimmers until April 10 when registration will open for all. We expect to fill the team quickly. Swim team practices will begin on May 31 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and will continue every weekday afternoon until school ends. The pool grounds will remain open during these afternoon practices and the pool will reopen at 7:15. The member fee for swim team is $155 and includes AAU athlete insurance, team swimsuit, team swim cap, team t-shirt, eight weeks of practice and five meets.

Spectators are welcome and we will have tasty concession items, so come out and cheer for the Dolphins.

Pre-Competitive Swim Team

A fun way to try-out the swim team without making a commitment for your 7 or 8 year old. Nine days of instruction in a swim team setting ending with a mini-meet. Pre-competitive swimmers will practice alongside the team with a designated coach. Every swimmer will receive a CSC Dolphins Swim Team t-shirt.
  • Weekdays from 5-5:45 pm (5-5:30 swim, 5:30-5:45 dry-land)
  • May 30 through June 9 (no make-up days)
  • Very limited space.

Swim Lessons

Swim lessons will again be taught by head swim team coach Kristin Watson with assistance from members of the swim team. The lessons run in four day sessions Monday through Thursday with a planned make-up day (for pool closure only) on Fridays. The cost per session is $45 for members of CSCSC and $55 for non-members of CSCSC. Registration will begin on May 1, there will be a link to the online registration form on the swim lessons page.

Masters Morning Swim

We are pleased to announce the return of Masters Morning Swim. An intramural swim training and fitness program for adults, our Masters program is open to swimmers 16 years and older. Lanes will be open for workouts with coaching and for independent lap swimming. Dates, times, pricing and particulars will be announced in the May Waterlog.

Water Aerobics

Breaking news! We just heard that we've found an instructor for water aerobics! We'll get you more information in the next newsletter.

Social

Hello friends! I think our mild winter has many of us looking forward to the opening of the pool. As a newly elected board member and social chair, I'm looking forward to planning some fun events for everyone over the course of the summer.

Look forward to the return of favorites like Margarita Night and Movie Night, and hopefully some new twists. These events can require a bit of legwork, so if you have a favorite that you want to be a hit, I'd love to have you help out. Let me know if you're available to help with planning, prep, clean-up, etc. Or maybe I'll just ask you! You can email me directly at social@capepool.com.

We (the board) are also working on figuring out the most efficient way to communicate news about social events and other news items. For now, my plan is to utilize the Cape St. Claire Swim Club Facebook page for the main means of promoting events and any last minute changes that might occur. It won't be the only way to find information, but if you have a question, check the Facebook page.

See you all soon! - Bridget
